Lost Loch Spirits was founded by Peter Dignan and Richard Pierce in 2017. With a passion for history as well as distilling, Pete and Rich are proud to be a part of a legal, modern-day resurgence of craft distilling on Royal Deeside.
The Lost Loch Spirits distillery is nestled between forest and farmland on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park. The distillery is fitted with a modern 500 litre iStill, which can produce up to 500 bottles per day. The distillery is also fitted with three traditional copper alembic stills used for recipe development and the production of absinthe. With the current setup we are capable of outputting 80,000 bottles per year.
The distillery is self-sufficient with distilling, bottling and packaging taking place on site. A percentage of the power and heat utilised comes from renewable sources as the site is fitted with a wind turbine, solar panel array and a biomass boiler.
The distillery is located on what would have been eastern shore of Loch Auchlossan. The Loch was unsuccessfully drained at various intervals during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. In 1944 the Loch was drained to assist with the war effort. This was successful and Loch Auchlossan has now been lost to time.
