A healthy and balanced lunchbox is essential for a growing child’s daily nutritional requirements.
Research carried out by the Foods Standards Agency indicates that many children who take lunch to school are eating too much saturated fat, salt and sugar in one meal.
The annual Taste of Grampian food festival, now in its 17th year, implemented the school lunchbox creation competition to complement the Curriculum of Excellence and the (Health Promotion and Nutrition) (Scotland) Act 2007 and to involve local children and young people ithe festivities.
This year’s challenge is for school children, in teams of four, to create a nutritionally-balanced lunch (with a budget of £2.50) using locally-sourced produce.
